Sheryl Crow has released a new single featuring none other than Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent).
Crow tells Billboard that “Wouldn’t Want to Be Like You” is about “about the climate of truth not being important anymore.”
The pair previously performed together in 2015 at Neil and Pegi Young’s Bridge School Benefit. This time around, Crow reached out to Clark: “I called her and said, ‘I am dying to have you bring your St. Vincent-ness to this,’” Crow said. “‘You will not hurt my feelings if you don’t like the song,’”
“Fuck yeah,” Clark responded after hearing the track.
Clark expressed her gratitude to Crow for featuring her on the track on Twitter, calling Crow “a wonderful singer, player, songwriter and a rad woman to boot.”
Crow released the single via Stem, a digital distribution platform that streamlines payment for artists, instead of through a traditional record label. There is no word yet on whether she’ll release her next album on the platform, as well.
