The Frights Share “Me And We And I” off Just-Announced Third Album Hypochondriac

After releasing the music video for “CRUTCH” two weeks ago, The Frights have now announced their forthcoming album Hypochondriac, due out Aug. 24. It’s the band’s third album, the second to be produced by FIDLAR’s Zac Carper and the first to be released on Epitaph Records.

Hypochondriac is the most comfortable I’ve been with a record thus far,” vocalist/guitarist Mikey Carnevale said in a statement. “I care a lot about these songs because they’re embarrassing and personal.”

In anticipation of Hypochondriac, The Frights have released another single: “Me And We And I,” which, as Carnevale said of the record, is a personal, self-aware track. The music video finds Carnevale at the beach maiming/murdering his band members in faux-horror fashion, with no shortage of fake gore. Beyond the band’s disheveled and bloody appearances, the song’s bright surf sound is somewhat at odds with the emotionally conflicted lyrics. Carnevale switches from self-critique (“what a freak”) to self-assuredness (“it’ll be okay”) and then continues to cycle through, recognizing the unpleasant and moving into self-sufficiency.

Overthinking was the first step of writing Hypochondriac Carnevale said, but once he got past that, the record as it is now began to take shape. “What came of that [process], I think, is a confessional album that I never assumed a band like ours would make,” Carnevale said. You can preorder the album here.
