Since apparently we millennials take great pleasure in killing everything from Applebee’s to cereal, it was only a matter of time before we set down our avocado toast and came for the CD industry. Luckily for all those record company executives, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have looked down mercifully from their hip-hop thrones to support physical music media, announcing that last month’s surprise album Everything Is Love will be released physically Friday, July 6, as reported by The Fader.
America’s (legitimate) first couple dropped the collaborative album on June 16, to the internet’s collective hysteria. It’s the third album in a trilogy of maritally cathartic albums as the couple works through Jay-Z’s rumored infidelity that inspired Beyoncé’s Lemonade (2016) and Jay’s own 4:44 (2017).
Everything Is Love was originally only available on Jay-Z’s streaming platform Tidal, but landed on Spotify and Apple Music two days later. One track, titled “Salud!,” is still Tidal-exclusive.
The music video for lead single “Apeshit,” originally a Migos demo, was filmed inside a rented, empty Louvre … a museum that hosted 8.1 million visitors last year. That alone would solidify Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s reign, but in the most striking visual from the video, the couple takes it a step further and stands in front of the Mona Lisa, without so much as a glance back at her.
The Carters are currently in the midst of their “On the Run II” tour. Stream Everything Is Love via Spotify here or Apple Music here, and check out the visuals for “Apeshit” below.
