During a performance in Lyon last night, the Arctic Monkeys paid tribute to Elvis Costello via a cover of Costello’s “Lipstick Vogue,” following the musician’s recent cancer diagnosis.
Frontman Alex Turner dedicated the song to the musician in his introduction. “It’s a cover of Elvis Costello and The Attractions, and we’d have dedicated this song to a friend of ours who is in the audience tonight,” said Turner. “But tonight, it’s for the man himself.”
Earlier this month, Costello announced that he was canceling the remainder of his current European tour following a diagnosis of “a small but very aggressive cancerous malignancy.” As of now, his scheduled fall North American tour will continue as planned. Costello thanked the Arctic Monkeys for the shoutout on Twitter.
Turner and Co. are currently on tour to support their most recent album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. Check out the stops on their first North American tour since 2014 here.
