8 Watermelon Cocktails. Because Summer

Basically synonymous with picnics, pool parties, and summer in general, Citrullus lanatus, also known as watermelon, is an African native whose cousins include cucumbers and pumpkins. Loved by many for its tastiness, its cooling and hydrating properties, and its low-calorie, phytonutrient-rich red, pink or yellow flesh, it makes a damn fine agua fresca and is a great friend to home mixologists.

In celebration of this dog-day’s mainstay, here are some delightful cocktails to try. As always, if you have specific spirit brand allegiances you should feel free to run with them. (We did learn SKYY Vodka has a new watermelon infused bevvie so in that case the recommendations are specific.)

As for actual watermelons… We recommend seedless. And for food-waste hawks, Aaron Polsky of Harvard and Stone has a cool DIY infused vodka using the rinds.
