Kansas Men Blame Trump for Their Attempted Mosque Bombing

Amidst recent attacks on liberal figures and anti-Semitic shootings, the left has pointed to Trump as a cultivator of hate. Apparently, even the lawyers for some of those who were found guilty of those sorts of attacks agree. Per Global News, a group of three militiamen in Kansas planned to bomb a mosque, though their plot was stopped before anyone was hurt. In April, Curtis Allen, Patrick Stein and Gavin Wright were convicted of conspiracy against civil rights and planning to use weapons of mass destruction, if Trump had not been elected.

Now, all these men are being processed through the legal system. The throughline of their defense: Blame Trump.

Yes, their lawyers hope to lessen sentencing by pointing out that Allen, Stein and Wright were heavily influenced by Trump’s hateful rhetoric. According to the sentencing memorandum, attorneys for the militiamen say that the President’s words heavily increased political tensions, as well as Islamophobia.

Stein’s lawyers say outright that the President targets “lost and ignored white, working-class men,” much like their client.

They look at Trump as the root of their problem and their clients as mere symptoms. Lawyers write in their memorandum: “The court cannot ignore the circumstances of one of the most rhetorically mold-breaking, violent, awful, hateful and contentious presidential elections in modern history, driven in large measure by the rhetorical China shop bull who is now our president.”

That’s where the conceit of the defense lies. According to attorneys, punishing supporters means nothing when their leader, our president, continues to spread hate of all kinds.
