The Macallan makes some of the most storied single malt Scotch whisky in the world. The distillery was one of the first to focus on single malt in the early 1800s, and some of their rare bottles have become record-breaking collector’s items. Two older bottles from the brand sold for $1.2 million earlier this year, and then a couple more super rare bottles from the ‘80s sold for $2.1 million about a month ago. Out of your price range? No problem. While The Macallan produces some of the most sought-after collectibles for enthusiasts, they also make super accessible 10-year and 12-year bottles. And they just opened what might be the most stunning distillery in the world of Scotch. After three and a half years (and more than $185 million) The Macallan opened its new destination distillery on a Speyside estate that has been home to the brand since 1824. As wonderful as The Macallan’s liquid is, this new distillery might be even more impressive. It looks like Frank Lloyd Wright designed a spaceship for a Star Trek movie. The slick piece of contemporary architecture only seems to enhance the rolling hills of Speyside and the ancient art of whisky making. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the gallery and see for yourself. Or book a trip if you have the time and cash. And if this gallery isn’t enough, just out the 360-degree tour that The Macallan has on their website, which takes you through the entire property, from a bird’s eye view of the buildings into the rickhouse.
Oh, and the new building isn’t just about the architecture. The new distillery will allow The Macallan to increase their production by a third.
