Tim Blake Nelson Reveals His New Character for HBO’s Watchmen Series

Tim Blake Nelson has revealed key details of his role in Damon Lindelof’s much-anticipated Watchmen series for HBO. In an interview on Empire Podcast, Nelson revealed that he is playing Looking Glass, a new character who doesn’t appear in the original Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons comics.

“My character’s name is Looking Glass, and it’s a really interesting, intriguing character,” Nelson told Empire. “I don’t really completely understand him, and that’s intentional. Damon Lindelof metes out facts about your character as you go along […] so I’m learning as I go along who this guy is, and trying to … It’s almost like fresco painting. The clay is always wet.”

According to reported casting call information shared by Empire, the character description reads as follows:

A good looking cop, the native Oklahoman isn’t simple as his rural accent makes him appear to be. A top interrogator and behavioral scientist, he may also be a bit of a sociopath.

Series Damon Lindelof penned an open letter to Watchmen fans in May, in which he discussed his intentions for a “remixed” interpretation of the groundbreaking Moore and Gibbons title, and also revealed that he was introducing new characters for his not-quite adaptation of the comics.

Nelson appears in the Coen Brothers’ Netflix anthology film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which is set to arrive on the streaming platform next week, following a theatrical engagement this coming weekend.

HBO’s Watchmen is set to premiere sometime in 2019.
