Exclusive: Ghost King Share Grim New Single, “Buzzin”

Brooklyn rock quartet Ghost King have shared the latest single from their new album, Dunbar Swamp, out digitally on Feb. 4 and available on vinyl on Feb. 8 via Mind Altar Records. This new single, “Buzzin,” premiering exclusively at Paste, follows the release of previous singles “Slither” and “Toad Jam.”

“Buzzin” takes doomy, smog-filled psych to creepy new dimensions. Opening with a slow strut of garage blues, you don’t realize how much its hypnotic sludge has sucked you in until it’s too late. By the time the grimy, gritty chorus vocals and spine-chilling, paranormal synths kick in, the coffin has closed, the key has been swallowed and you’ve been buried alive.

”’Buzzin’ was written during the winter of 2016 while I was living in the Bronx, N.Y.,” says frontman Carter McNeil. “The song represents a sort of unknown feeling/place that tries to lure you into its grasps. Mesmerized, you can’t help but fall into it. You’re sent down a spiral and fall into the world of a nightmarish comedown.”

The band has played shows with L.A. Witch, Acid Dad and more, and they’re playing an all-ages album release show with Ghost Funk Orchestra on Feb. 8 at Trans-Pecos in Ridgewood, N.Y.
