Watch Indigo Girls Perform in the Paste Office on This Day in 2014

Atlanta duo Indigo Girls have been sharing their impactful folk-rock since the ’80s, and as Decatur, Ga. natives, it was fitting that Amy Ray and Emily Saliers stopped by Paste’s Decatur office to play some songs from their extensive back catalogue. On this day (Jan. 2) in 2014, the pair came into our office to perform four tracks—”Get Out the Map,” “Sugar Tongue,” “Second Time Around” and “Fighting for the Love of Our Lives.”

With a backing of harmonica, mandolin, acoustic guitar and bass, Ray and Saliers exude a warm glow with their spirited, twangy performance. “Get Out the Map,” taken from their 1997 album, Shaming of the Sun, gives off the feeling of a glorious, late-summer day filled with normal occurrences that feel extraordinary. Its plucky mandolin and light-hearted lyrics of romance and picturesque American landscapes add to its upbeat, cinematic aura. The remaining three tracks on the setlist were from their 2009 album Poseidon And The Bitter Bug—their first independently released album as a group.
