New on Netflix: All the Movies and TV Coming in April

Your eyes do not deceive you: It’s already almost April, and with the upcoming month arrives a new wave of film and television titles on Netflix. Here’s a handy breakdown of the streamer’s most noteworthy incoming additions (and outgoing subtractions).

We’ll begin with April’s new movies, one of which we at Paste ranked among 2018’s very best: Lee Chang-dong’s critically beloved Burning (April 29), which follows an alienated and introverted young man, Jongsu (Ah-in Yoo), whose already difficult life is complicated by two people entering his orbit: Haemi (newcomer Jong-seo Jun), a spirited woman who offers romantic possibility, and Ben (Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead and Sorry to Bother You), the wealthy and sophisticated stranger with whom Haemi returns from a trip. When Ben reveals his unsettling hobby (hint: it’s in the title) and Haemi suddenly disappears, Jongsu is overcome by mounting confusion and obsession, leading to the film’s stunning finale. That acclaimed South Korean psychological-drama doesn’t arrive until later in the month, but a number of eye-catching titles land on April 1, including harrowing backwoods adventure Deliverance, Guy Ritchie gangster flick Snatch, Watergate-centric journalism drama All the President’s Men, Luc Besson’s over-the-top sci-fi actioner The Fifth Element, modern-day stoner-comedy classic Pineapple Express, 1967’s Warren Beatty- and Faye Dunaway-starring Bonnie and Clyde and Will Smith-led post-apocalyptic thriller I Am Legend, to name a handful. Following those films later in April are Brie Larson’s directorial debut Unicorn Store (April 5), Gina Rodriguez- and Lakeith Stanfield-starring romantic-dramedy Someone Great (April 19), the extended version of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight (April 25), Andrea Arnold’s 2016 standout drama American Honey (April 27) and Oscar-winning World War II thriller The Imitation Game (April 29), among others.

On the TV and comedy side of things, Netflix is in for a relatively quiet month, though there’s still plenty coming down the pike. Perhaps the foremost standout is Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Part 2 (April 5), the 10-episode second installment of the streamer’s original, Kiernan Shipka-starring adaptation of the Archie Comics series Sabrina the Teenage Witch, from the creators of The CW’s Riverdale. We found Part 1 to be “kind of lukewarm” and self-serious, despite Shipka’s spot-on casting, but perhaps the Dark Lord will smile upon the witchy series’ second effort, which is said to find Sabrina “exploring her darker side.” Other additions of note include: Kevin Hart’s first Netflix stand-up special, Irresponsible (April 2), in which the comedy giant discusses “touches upon his friends, family, travel … and a year filled with Irresponsible behavior” in front of a sold-out audience at London’s O2 Arena; Netflix original nature docuseries Our Planet (April 5), narrated by Emmy-winning Planet Earth and Blue Planet Sir David Attenborough (the man has found his niche!); season seven of Fox comedy series New Girl (April 10); the debut of Netflix’s insane-sounding, Bear Grylls-starring interactive adventure series You vs. Wild (April 10); the debut of new Netflix original sketch show I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson (April 23); the latest installment of the streamer’s ReMastered music docuseries, the Robert Johnson-centric Devil at the Crossroads (April 26); and characteristically provocative Anthony Jeselnik stand-up special Fire in the Maternity Ward (April 30), his second for Netflix.

Before we let you go, we’ll direct your attention to the titles leaving Netflix next month: Michael Mann heist classic Heat, David Fincher thriller Seven, dumb-fun Adam Sandler comedies Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, the self-explanatory Sex and the City: The Movie, Curtis Hanson’s Oscar-winning crime-drama L.A. Confidential, George Miller family film Happy Feet, Paul Rudd/Jason Segel “bromance” comedy I Love You, Man, seasons one through four of Idris Elba-starring detective series Luther, and an absolute slew of James Bond films (Casino Royale, Goldfinger, The Living Daylights, etc., etc.) vanish from the streamer’s library on April 1, followed by Julia Ducournou’s visceral horror film Raw on April 4, animated Star Wars universe adventure Star Wars: The Clone Wars on April 7 and David O. Russell’s Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook on April 18.
