has shared another panoramic single from his forthcoming solo album Western Stars, due out June 14. This one’s called “Tucson Train,” and it’s accompanied by a performance video shot by Thom Zimmy.
“Tucson Train” is a sweeping tune, with lavish strings and brass backing Springsteen’s wide-eyed visions of a romantic rekindling. The instrumentation is evocative of Western landscapes, stirring images of vistas on the horizon as Springsteen sings of an emotional reunion. “I left a good thing behind / Seemed all of our love was in vain,” Springsteen aches, before letting the chorus bring him to the sublime realization, “Now my baby’s coming in on a Tucson train.”
Zimmy and Springsteen are longtime collaborators, most recently working together on Netflix’s Springsteen on Broadway. The footage for “Tucson Train” is simple yet effective, showing the sheer amount of musicians who poured their efforts into Springsteen’s vision.
This is the third single The Boss has shared from his forthcoming record, following “There Goes My Miracle” and “Hello Sunshine,” which we named as one of the best songs of April. Western Stars is out June 14 via Columbia Records. You can check out the performance video below, then watch The Boss play live circa 1978.
