Attorney General William Barr has exposed himself for who he truly is: a Republican hack afraid of answering questions from fellow lawyers and more concerned with protecting the president than our democracy. Now, a number of high-profile Democrats have come forward saying Barr should resign—including, of course, many contenders for the 2020 presidential ticket.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Kamala Harris and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand all took to Twitter to call for Barr’s resignation.
Sen. Bernie Sanders condemned Barr’s actions regarding the Mueller report and reiterated that he did not feel Barr was a good fit for attorney general from the start, though he did not go so far as to call for his resignation.
When asked if Barr should step aside, 2020 hopeful Joe Biden responded, per WaPo, “I think he’s lost the confidence of the American people. I think he should.”
“He’s not the president’s lawyer. He’s the people lawyer. He’s not there to defend the president,” Biden said in a separate interview, echoing concerns that Barr is more dedicated to party loyalties than justice.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Beto O’Rourke called for Barr to resign on Twitter, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg also said the attorney general should step down.
