and Kerry Washington have shared the first look at Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere adaptation on Twitter, a photo featuring the film’s two female powerhouses at its center.
The photo is set in the middle of an idyllic, suburban kitchen and finds Witherspoon doing her best pastoral housewife in a collared sundress. At her left, Washington appears stern and formidable in an all-black outfit (accented by a flare at the bottom of her bootcut jeans—the film is set in the ‘90s, after all), heeled boots and a nose stud. It doesn’t appear that Easter eggs have made their way into the image (unless there’s some underlying magic about drab plaid curtains).
Based on the Celeste Ng novel of the same name, Little Fires Everywhere follows the picture-perfect Richardson family (led by Witherspoon) and an enigmatic mother (Washington)-daughter duo who upend their lives.
The limited series also stars Joshua Jackson as Witherspoon’s husband, Rosemarie DeWitt as Linda McCullough and Lexi Underwood as Washington’s daughter. Jade Pettyjohn, Jordan Elsass, Gavin Lewis and Megan Stott round out the core cast.
The series is produced by Witherspoon and Washington’s production companies, and ABC Signature Studios. Witherspoon and Washington are also set to executive produce, and Liz Tigelaar (Life Unexpected) will serve as showrunner.
The series will debut on Hulu in 2020. Stay tuned for further updates on the production.
