Listen to V.V. Lightbody's Punchy New Single, "Car Alarm"

Chicago indie-rocker V.V. Lightbody (aka Vivian McConnell) followed up last month’s great “Baby, Honestly” with another new single Friday morning.

“Car Alarm” finds the nap-rocker waking up. Using triplets of guitar strokes, Lightbody gives her songwriting a new punch in between familiar bursts of her finger-picking style. The rest of her band are equally game here, with a wonderfully understated bass line adding unexpected depth to the tender track.

Yet Lightbody isn’t all that soft. Weaponizing her sexuality, Lightbody sings of romantic tension and conflict, airily vocalizing, “Never to return / Cause I’m the one did this / Never to return / And I will not forget it,” before turning the noise up with a guitar solo to close out the tune.

Lightbody will release a 7” on Nashville’s Acrophase Records later this year. Check out “Car Alarm” below, then revisit her 2018 Daytrotter Session further down.
