Mega Bog Shares Another Left-Field Pop Groove, “Truth in the Wild”

Mega Bog, the musical alter ego of Erin Elizabeth Birgy, shared the avant-pop groove “Truth in the Wild” via a Vanessa Haddad-directed video on Monday afternoon.

The first thing that jumps out about “Truth in the Wild” are the claves. Mixed perfectly, they set the stage for a relaxed lounge tune that incorporates plucky guitars, tender cymbals and understated synths. The instrumentation is like a breath of fresh air, an invigorating reprieve from the world that Birgy’s free-associative lyrics likewise dodge.

The track is paired with a lustrous video that dreamily weaves footage of Birgy singing with found footage of animals, insects and plants. The whole experience is a pristinely surreal excursion, ending with the VHS tapes engulfed in flames and a dedication to sci-fi writer Ursula K. Le Guin.

Mega Bog is prepping for the release of her fifth album, Dolphine. Per a press release, the album is set to “spin a manic web of emotions into beautiful, abstract future poems and thrilling genre perversions.” She’ll be joined by members of bands like Big Thief and Hand Habits in what is sure to be an exciting release.

Dolphine is out June 28 via Paradise of Bachelors. Catch the video for “Truth in the Wild” below and catch Mega Bog’s 2017 Paste session beneath that.
