Thanks to Jimmy Kimmel, Dave Bautista has proved he’s not just an action star. He’s also a horrendously awful, absolutely terrible, just very, very bad stand-up comedian.
The Guardians of the Galaxy and Stuber star tried his very untrained hand at a fake Netflix comedy special-style stand-up routine for a spoof bit on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Titled Dave Bautista: I’ve Never Done This Before, his routine was met with awkward laughs from a crowd that didn’t seem to get his, um, unique (Read: insane) sense of humor.
Though we’ve got to admit we chuckled at his impression of his Aunt Liz, but his “interrupting cow” knock-knock joke really fell flat, even earning a “you suck” from an audience member, which honestly was the funniest part of the routine. Thankfully, it was all in good fun as the former WWE superstar playfully threw the heckler onto the stage and broke a wooden chair over his back. Funny.
Kumail Nanjiani, his Stuber co-star sat next to him in the guests’ chairs as Kimmel debuted the trailer. Nanjiani was bewildered, to say the least.
“I think they thought because I was working with Kumail,” Bautista trailed off jokingly. “I said I’m not a stand-up comedian. They said, ‘Well, we’ll pay you $10 million.’ I said, ‘I’ll do it.’”
To which Nanjiani, a real comic, said, “I can’t get that, and I’m a stand-up comedian.”
We guess whatever Kumail Nanjiani can do, Dave Bautista can do better.
Check out the faux trailer for yourself below. And if you’re not too turned off by Bautista’s cringeworthy comedy, maybe take a look at Stuber, in theaters tomorrow (the same day as his awful, phony Netflix special).
