and her razor-sharp cheekbones are returning for another round of fairytale magic in the new trailer for Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, coming to theaters on Oct. 18.
The story is going beyond the Sleeping Beauty fairytale for the second installment of Maleficent, and this time it seems that Michelle Pfieffer is the real bad guy. The story continues on from the first film in the new trailer, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil sees Elle Fanning’s Aurora getting engaged to Prince Phillip, with Harris Dickinson replacing the first film’s Brenton Thwaites as the prince. Though the formerly cursed princess Aurora is set to be the next Queen of Moors, her and Maleficent have to team up to protect the realm and everyone in it.
Leading a star-studded cast, Jolie will be returning as the horned fairy of evil, and Fanning, Sam Riley and Lesley Manville are also returning. Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein and Chiwetel Ejiofor have all joined the cast. Joachim Rønning directs from a script by Linda Woolverton and Micah Fitzerman-Blue & Noah Harpster, based on Woolverton’s story.
Grossing over $750 million at the global box office, Disney’s Maleficent told the fairytale story of Sleeping Beauty from the point of view of the evil fairy. The film gave insight into why she cursed Aurora and follows her until she pricks her finger and falls into a deep sleep to never wake up, sort of at least. Stepping aside from the textbook fairytale, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil sees Jolie donning her horns and wings, and wreaking havoc once again.
