Syfy’s Wynonna Earp to Begin Season Four Production with 2020 Release Date

With multiple difficulties delaying the beginning of production, Syfy’s Wynonna Earp has been on hold, but fans can finally exhale. The show is set to begin production later this year and will debut its fourth season in 2020, per Variety.

Syfy commissioned two additional seasons after the show’s third, but between financial difficulties and shooting problems, the series’ production company, IDW Entertainment, halted the production of the show’s fourth season. When the fourth season finally premieres in 2020, there will have been a two-year break between seasons three and four.

“Syfy has never wavered in its support of Wynonna Earp, a unique and important series with some of the most passionate fans anywhere,” Syfy said in a statement to Variety. “To our Earper friends: Thank you for your patience and faith as we worked with our partners to ensure that Wynonna can get back to where it belongs… on Syfy.”

Based on the Beau Smith comic series of the same name, Wynonna Earp follows the demon-hunting great, great granddaughter of Wyatt Earp. The show has been a major proponent of the LGBTQ+ community and has gained a major following for its inclusive representation.

Melanie Scrofano (Bad Blood) portrays the titular character, with Tim Rozon (Schitt’s Creek), Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Katherine Barrell (Workin’ Moms) also making appearances.

Wynonna Earp — the series, the comics, the characters, the story and the fans are all deeply important to IDW so we are thrilled to be able to continue to tell the Wynonna story,” Lydia Antonini, president of IDW Entertainment, told Variety. “From the very beginning, the fans have embraced the series and have transformed their passion into an inclusive community built upon empathy and support, as well as whiskey and donuts. We are grateful to have partners who were able to help us bring it back for a fourth season so that we can continue to serve the dedicated Earpers, and entertain fans everywhere.”

Cineflix Studios will be co-producing with IDW Entertainment and SEVEN24 Films. The show’s creator Emily Andras will continue to act as showrunner and executive producer for the series. SEVEN24’s Jordy Randall and Tom Cox will executive produce along with Cineflix’s Peter Emerson and Brett Burlock. Todd Berger and Rick Jacobs will also assist with executive producing.
