Bethlehem Steel Share New Song “Empty Room” From Upcoming Sophomore Album

Led by Rebecca Ryskalczyk, New York rockers Bethlehem Steel released their debut album, Party Naked Forever as a trio. For their new self-titled record, the band has reconfigured their sound by adding a new guitarist and vocalist, Christina Puerto, and are today sharing a new track to showcase the new direction.

“Empty Room” is a low-key ripper, layering tactile drumming underneath twirling guitars. The track traverses decibels at the drop of a hat, moving from skronky wails to subdued murmurs several times during its less than 3-minute runtime. Puerto’s voice is delicately firm, singing of needing to be alone in the middle of tough times. Speaking to Consequence of Sound, Puerto explains:

As I was writing the lyrics — which are kinda bleak — I kept being drawn to really optimistic-sounding melodies, which I eventually just gave into. It ended up being a good thing for me because writing has a way of forcing me into some pretty intense self-reflection… which is a good and necessary thing… but the way this song came out musically made things easier for me to process.

Bethlehem Steel is out Sept. 13 via Exploding In Sound. You can pre-order it here, and check out “Empty Room” below. Keep scrolling to find the album’s details and the band’s upcoming tour dates.
