Happy Birthday, Robert Plant! Hear the Led Zeppelin Frontman Perform “Ramble On”

Everyone wants to sing like Robert Plant, but no one else really can. The former Led Zeppelin lead vocalist and solo artist is known for his cutting vocal range that can climb to dizzying heights, wowing crowds with one of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest voices. Today (Aug. 20), Plant turns 71, and he’s showing no sign of slowing down—he has his own podcast called Digging Deep with Robert Plant and he continues to tour off the back of his latest album, Carry Fire.

“His sound is ever-changing, experimenting with the science of otherworldly instrumentation,” Paste wrote of Plant’s latest solo effort. “But above all else, it’s his wisdom that keeps him going, and by the looks of everything he brought to the table in Carry Fire, he’s not stopping anytime soon.”

In 2006, Plant played a show at the Beacon Theater, and he closed his set with “Ramble On” from the classic 1969 album Led Zeppelin II. Plant was backed by a star-studded group of musicians called The Rant Band, and it included Andy York (John Mellencamp’s lead guitarist), Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith’s bass player), Steve Holley (Paul McCartney & Wings drummer) and others.
