Watch Lou Reed Perform Velvet Underground Classics On This Day in 1984

It’s been almost six years since the death of Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed, and his music still resonates. As The Curmudgeon outlined in his recent column for Paste, the Velvet Underground continue to influence new generations of musicians, even 50 years after their debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico, was released.

Throughout his lengthy solo career, Reed often brought out beloved Velvet Underground material during his tours. A few months after the release of Reed’s 13th solo album New Sensations and on this day (Sept. 25) in 1984, Reed performed several VU songs at New Jersey’s Capitol Theatre. He ripped through VU cuts from their 1967 debut, plus White Light/White Heat and Loaded.
