Nineteen albums into her storied career, Bonnie Raitt is still an inspiration to all blues guitarists and songwriters. Coinciding with the launch of her new record label, Redwing Records, Raitt will release Slipstream, her first studio album in seven years, on April 10.
“Ain’t Gonna Let You Go” highlights Raitt in tight musical form—wrapping up her rootsy rock and roll country blues in a six-minute jam. Her voice is powerful and clear, while still maintaining that recognizable grit. Raitt’s guitar work, which includes an extended, riff-heavy end solo, is cool and controlled. The lyrics ring emotive and true.
Loaded with a talented studio team comprising producer Joe Henry (who produced four other songs) and engineer Ryan Freeland (Ray LaMontagne, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Aimee Mann), her long-time touring bandmates George Marinelli (guitar), James “Hutch” Hutchinson (bass), Ricky Fataar (drums) and newcomer/old friend Mike Finnigan (keys), Slipstream has all the makings of an impressive reemergence for such an canonized songwriter and performer.
