This year, HGTV partnered with Paste as we headed down to Gulf Shores, Ala., for what we’d considered the best Hangout Music Fest to date. Beyond watching shows from some of our favorite artists, we filmed and recorded our own performances on the beach. Not just near it, but with our feet covered in Alabama’s pristine sands.
After playing a few of their older fan favorites and a Beastie Boys cover, Switchfoot wrapped up their time at Hangout by performing one last song on the beaches of Gulf Shores. Despite a weary voice and a plane to catch, they performed a stripped-down ocean-side version of “Dark Horses”—a song that frontman Jon Foreman explained was “inspired by the homeless kids back home in San Diego.”
