The Civil Wars
announced on Tuesday that they would be canceling all upcoming tour dates, citing “internal discord.” The pair expressed that although touring together isn’t currently a possibility, their hope is to release new music next year.
We dubbed the duo as The “Best of What’s Next” almost two years ago. Since then, the band has graced us with live sessions in our offices as well as off-site events like Newport Folk Festival. They also went on to score a gold record for Barton Hollow, two Grammy awards and an Americana Music Association Award for “Duo/Group of the Year.”
But out of all the times we’ve seen them, their rendition of “Poison & Wine” from our 2011 SXSW party is particularly stirring. As Joy Williams sings lyrics like “Oh, you think your dreams are the same as mine,” you can’t help but think of the chilling, current relevance. Check out the video in the player below.
