South by Southwest has become known for its non-stop nature and the multitude of talent gathered in one city for a week. But between late nights, crowded venues and the constant travel from show to show, the downtown scene can be a little bit exhausting. We at Paste were lucky enough to take a break from the commotion and invite several of our must-see acts to our very own backyard. These intimate, stripped-down recordings, The Riverview Sessions, allowed us to catch a glimpse of these fine talents in a different light.
Madison, Wis. band Phox was one act that emerged as a new favorite for many Paste staffers during SXSW. Their easy-going dynamic and strong musicianship allowed the band to thrive in front of audiences as well as in our low-key, acoustic set-up at The Riverview Sessions. Check out this video of “Evil,” a track from the band’s recent release Friendship.
