Many music fans may have first been exposed to singer-songwriter Cary Brothers with his breakout single “Blue Eyes,” but Brothers’ career has only continued to develop since his inclusion on the popular Garden State soundtrack.. On Tuesday, Brothers is set to release Let Me Be, a five-song EP and self-described “therapy record.” Let Me Be is Brothers’ first release since 2010’s Under Control, and features several collaborations.
“I went into the studio with my favorite musicians in town, we played together live, and I told the truth,” said Brothers in a recent press release.
The honesty in Let Me Be is evident in the melancholy lyrics, written in the wake of a recent breakup.
“People always ask me if you need sadness to write a good song,” said Brothers. “Well, it doesn’t hurt.”
Let Me Be is set for release on May 14, but you can listen to the EP in its entirety in the player below.
