Hailing from Richmond, Va., the No BS! Brass Band is the brainchild of founders Reggie Pace (trombone player for Bon Iver) and Lance Koehler. The all-star brass ensemble—which shares members with Matthew E. White’s band and has collaborated with A-list acts like Feist, Bon Iver, Megafaun and Sharon van Etten—is releasing two new albums this summer that showcase their craft and versatility. RVA All Day is an original celebration of their hometown Richmond scene and will be released on June 14, while Fight Song: A Tribute to Charles Mingus, debuts on July 5.
According to their website, the now 11-piece lineup—a diverse combination of varied skills and talents—has “stripped away all of the ‘b.s.’” The driving forces behind the No BS! Brass Band give the audience a bold, raw sound that pays homage to traditional influences like John Coltrane, but is also thoroughly modern and, most importantly—is best heard loud.
In anticipation of their upcoming album release this Friday, you can access an exclusive stream this week of the band’s RVA All Day.
