Overseas’ self titled album may be the band’s debut, but it’s doubtful this will be the first you are hearing from the group’s members. The band is a bona fide super group between David Bazan of Pedro The Lion and Headphones, Will Johnson of Centro-matic and South San Gabriel and Bubba and Matt Kadane of Bedhead and The New Year.
The group of friends converged several years ago with the intention of producing some truly collaborative music. Their efforts evolved into what would become a full-length album.
“It was thrilling, and kind of a brain scramble at times,” said Johnson of the experience. “But in the end, I feel like the record accurately represents the varied musical colors of all four people. It aptly displays the feathers of the bird.”
The “varied musical colors” of Overseas are evident throughout the album as the band beautifully transitions between swelling rock songs and harmony-laden ballads. It is something special to hear Bazan and Johnson on the same record. While the pair’s vocal stylings are distinctive, they seamlessly trade lead roles and harmonize throughout the work.
Overseas will be released on June 11, but you can listen to the album in its entirety in the player below.
