is still riding high after releasing his acclaimed album Southeastern, and John Paul White of The Civil Wars has been in the news leading up to the release of the band’s newest self-titled album.
The two country-folk powers teamed up to pay tribute to one of the most influential bands in the genre: Alabama. High Cotton: A Tribute to Alabama features covers from all corners of Alabama’s discography performed by a wide range of artists— from Blind Boys of Alabama to Lucero to Old Crow Medicine Show.
Isbell jumped at the opportunity to pay tribute to the band that took its name from his home state, saying, “There’s a reason Alabama is the biggest country band of all time: The songs they recorded are great reflections on what it’s like to live and love in the South.”
High Cotton: A Tribute to Alabama is set for release on Sept. 17 via Lighting Rod Records. Check out Jason Isbell and John Paul White’s collaboration on “Old Flame” in the player below.
