Wild Child  began as a folk duo comprised of Austin, Texas residents Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins, but the band’s sound has grown into a six-piece, backing the pair’s sweet harmonies with voluminous instrumentation that includes keys, electric bass, drums and cello. After a flurry of critical acclaim for their debut album Pillow Talk in 2011, Wild Child took their time to produce forthcoming follow-up The Runaround.

“By November of 2011, one month after the release of our first record Pillow Talk, I was ready to write and record our sophomore album,” said Beggins. “I honestly never thought it would take two years to finish it, but I am glad that it did. We were extremely patient with The Runaround. We took our time. We wrote songs and then rewrote them and then threw them away and then fell in love with them again and then rewrote them some more.”

Grammy-nominated musician Ben Kweller produced the album, allowing the band to capitalize on the freak-folk elements of their music.

”’Crazy Bird’ in particular I wanted to be perfect,” said Beggins of the album’s first single. “It is such a sick tune, I just wanted to make sure we did it due diligence. It’s big, loud and ballsy. It was a grueling process all said and done but it was absolutely worth it. I am proud of this shit. I love this shit. I am ready to share it with our fans. It’s been so hard to sit on it for the last few months.”

The wait is over, and you can stream “Crazy Bird” in the player below. The Runaround is set for release on Oct. 8 via The Noise Company and available for preorder here.
