This week, angry young men and uptown girls got the news that Billy Joel is set to take up a residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City. It may have been a surprise, but the decision was hardly unwarranted: Joel famously played a 12-night run at the venue in 2006 and has graced the hallowed stage over 40 times throughout his career.
With the assurance that Joel will continue to play “as long as there is demand,” we started thinking about just how long that demand as been around already. Thumbing through the archives of our friends at Concert Vault we found a full concert performance from Joel at the Capitol Theatre in 1976. Over three decades later, it seems like it might be a while until people get their fill. Watch Joel perform “New York State of Mind” live at the Capitol Theatre in the player below, and head on over to Concert Vault for the full performance.
