Patrick Park has spent over a decade creating a name for himself as a captivating storyteller and songwriter as well as an exquisite live performer, touring with the likes of My Morning Jacket, Beth Orton and Liz Phair. This month, Park’s latest studio effort Love Like Swords is set for release, and in anticipation of the album Park has put together a video for single “My Holding Hand Is Empty.” The video was directed by Laban Pheidias, and is all one long take. Park admitted he had some worries during the shooting process.
“We definitely took a lot safety measures, especially because of how many people were on set, but in my mind I was just picturing the whole of Echo Park in flames,” Park said. “In the end, my worries were totally unfounded and everything went as perfectly as it could possibly go. Imperfectly perfect.”
In fact, plenty of focal points in the video weren’t planned at all.
“There are a lot of things in the video that happened that weren’t actually supposed to happen,” Park noted. “Jeff King tripping and falling through the walls while still holding two flaming torches is a big one that comes to mind. There are a lot of little things too. If you watch closely you can see Chris Lambert shoot him self in the face with a fire extinguisher. I don’t want to give them all away, but there lot’s of little gems in there that are just happy accidents.”
