Cereus Bright is a band named after the desert flower Cereus and inspired by the plant’s ability to bloom in the most desolate of places. The band is made up of vocalist, guitarist and pianist Tyler Anthony and mandolin player and lead guitarist Evan Ford, bassist Matt Nelson and drummer Luke Bowers. They self-released five-song EP Happier Than Me in late 2013, and in anticipation of an upcoming tour the band has covered disco classic “Stayin’ Alive,” giving the track their own distinctly folk-inspired twist.

”’Stayin’ Alive’ is a fantastic song to cover,” said Anthony.. “It’s fun, and recognizable, and everyone has heard it but very few people have taken the time to listen to it.”

Fans of the original might not quite recognize the track at first, but Cereus Bright has placed an emphasis on the lyrics that makes the imaginative take on the song seem fitting.

“It’s not just a upbeat pop song, but also a song about confidence, fear, death and identity, all built on solid melodies. In other words, it’s a good song, and it deserves to be listened to,” he added. “Plus, it gives us an excuse to play disco. So it’s a win-win.”
