This October, Paste dedicated a week to CMJ’s Music Marathon in New York City, where we set up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for three days of interviews, acoustic performances and even a showcase at the Paste Parlour, presented by Squarespace. Our friends at Lagunitas Brewing provided tasty drafts while we saw an impressive lineup of established musicians along with up-and-comers come through our lounge at The Living Room’s new location at 134 Metropolitan Ave.
Events like CMJ are really all about discovery, and that was never more evident than when the talented members of The Family Crest began to play. Talking about the collaborative nature of their work before launching into a stunning performance of “Beneath the Brine” (the title track to their most recent album) was enough to make fans out of everyone in the building and land the band on our list of Best New Bands of 2014. Check out the performance in the player above, and keep an ear out for more from the band—they’re performing at Sundance Film Festival and have hinted that they’ll be releasing new music in the next few months.
