Karaoke is often more about execution than ability. In an effort to put on a good show, participants tackle songs that are not always suited to their vocal range. This can either be awesome or excruciatingly unpleasant. Thankfully folksy Father John Misty surprised us in the best way.
While aboard the SS Coachella late last month, Misty covered everyone’s favorite Space Jam track and arguably one of R. Kelly’s career best (not counting Trapped in the Closet, which is in a league of its own), the uplifting “I Believe I Can Fly.” The five-minute, crowd-pleasing rendition makes a strong case for inclusion in last year’s list of best covers.
