Yesterday, an official looking Red Hot Chili Peppers website went live under the domain RHCP2014.com, featuring the band’s supposed new single “Abracadabralifornia.” Complete with inane rap-scatting and noodly funk riffs, the song was nearly indistinguishable from the genuine article, fooling many into thinking both the site and the song were legit. I mean, who other than Anthony Kiedis could write a line like “Bing a bong bing a bong a bong Burbank”?
Comedy Bang! Bang! fans, however, will recognize the lyrics from an appearance comedian Jon Daly made on the podcast last year. Since then, Daly has clearly improved his already impressive Kiedis impression, resulting in the pitch-perfect parody he and musician Cyrus Ghahremani created for the phony Chili Peppers site.
Either way, “Abracadabralifornia” is a must-listen, though we could do without RHCP2014’s sponsor-filled neon graphics. Fortunately, the good folks at Splitsider were thoughtful enough to upload a streamable, blessedly Durango-free version of the song. Check it out below:
