Along with the slushie, milkshakes have gotten their own adult makeover, with bartenders adding rum, bourbon or various liqueurs to your favorite childhood treat. These milkshakes will bring the boys to the yard, that’s for sure. Look for these frozen treats on fun-loving bar menus, or whip out the blender and try making one at home. Just grab some of your favorite ice creams and some booze and your ready to concoct something sure to give you a brain freeze in the best way. Here are 10 adult milkshake recipes to get you started.

Chocolate Ice Cream

Take Fireball and chocolate ice cream; throw into a blender and mix. Pour into a frosted glass and add home made (optional) marshmallows on top. Stir and enjoy.

House Made Limoncello,

Lemon Juice

Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix. Enjoy.

3. Grown-Up Milkshake

8-10 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 part white chocolate liqueur
1 part coffee liqueur
1 part brandy
Whipped cream (garnish)
Chocolate pieces


Put the ice cream in the blender, then pour the white chocolate liqueur, coffee liqueur and brandy into the mix. Cover, and blend. Put chocolate pieces and whipped cream on for garnish.

4. Mocha-Caramel-Kahlúa Milkshake

1/4 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder
3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
3 tablespoons caramel sauce, plus more for garnish
11 ounces premium vanilla ice cream (about 1 3/4 packed cups)
1 ounce (2 tablespoons) Kahlúa
Fresh whipped cream
Chocolate-covered espresso beans (garnish)


Combine milk espresso poweder, chocolate syrup, caramel and Kahlúa into the blender and mix. Add ice cream and blend until smooth. Garnish with whipped cream and espresso beans (caramel sauce if desired).

5. Vanilla Bean Bourbon Milkshake

1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 fresh vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped
11 ounces vanilla ice cream (about 1 ¾ packed cups)
1 ounce (2 tablespoons) bourbon


Put milk, bourbon, and vanilla bean seeds in the blender and mix. Add ice cream and pour into glass.

6. Bananas Foster Milkshake

1 ripe banana, peeled and cut into chunks
1/4 cup caramel sauce (more for garnish)
Pinch ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon dark rum, optional
1/3 cup whole milk
10 ounces vanilla ice cream
Whipped cream, for garnish
Banana slices, for garnish


Combine banana, caramel, cinnamon, rum and milk in a blender and mix. Add ice cream and blend. Pour in a frosted glass and add whipped cream, slices of bananas and drizzle of caramel. Serve and enjoy.

Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix. Add whipped cream as a garnish if desired.

9. Salted Caramel Milkshake

1 cup caramel sauce
1 teaspoon flaky sea salt
1 cup vanilla bean ice cream
1 ½ ounces rum
1/2 cup whole milk


Pour caramel into milkshake glasses. Take ice cream, milk, and caramel sauce and put into a blender, add rum and salt and blend. Pour into the glasses and serve.

2 ounces Guinness stout


Pour Guinness into glass, add ice cream, top with chocolate bitters.
