Every Movie and TV Adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll published Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in 1865, and the book has entranced readers and filmmakers alike ever since. Cecil Hepworth and Percy Stow directed the first “Alice” film in 1903, with May Clark starring in the titular role. Since then, dozens of adaptations have been created around the world. These films capture the slightly eerie aspect of the book to varying degrees, though the black and white ones possess a ghostliness that is delightfully disturbing.

The book’s sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There (1871), boasts fewer adaptations. But Tim Burton’s take on the story debuts in theaters tonight, starring Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Johnny Depp as Hatter. To celebrate the release, we’ve compiled a gallery of almost* every Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass adaptation.

*Some of the missing adaptations include stage plays broadcast on TV and an Alice-themed musical porno.
