Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is Amazon’s Best-Selling Book of the Year

Books News Amazon

Will Harry Potter’s reign ever end? Amazon has unveiled its top-selling books of 2016, and the boy who lived topped them all. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was Amazon’s best-seller, to the surprise of no one.

On Amazon’s list of best-selling new releases, Cursed Child was followed by When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi in the number two spot, and The Whistler by John Grisham in third. Cursed Child also topped the list of best-selling kids and teens books, the most-gifted books of the year, and the most wished-for books of the year.

“The power of Potter is still strong, and readers of all ages can’t get enough of Hogwarts. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was the most anticipated book of the year, breaking pre-order records months before its release,” said Amazon Senior Book Editor Chris Schluep in a statement. The list of best-selling books is compiled from the number of first editions sold, both in print and via Kindle.

The book was just the script for a stage production which is currently playing in London. The story follows Harry Potter’s son as he attends Hogwarts, and occurs 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The book sold more than two million copies over the course of its first two days on stands, and is currently being developed for Broadway.
