The National Book Critics Circle Announces Finalists for 2020 Awards

It’s been a great year for reading, and the National Book Critics Circle had the difficult job of narrowing down the finalists for this year’s NBCC Awards, which will be presented on March 12 at the New School.

In addition to the finalists in six categories—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, criticism, biography and autobiography—the Critics Circle announced the winners of three additional prizes: Katy Waldman of The New Yorker received the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing, Naomi Shihab Nye took home the Ivan Sandrof Award for Lifetime Achievement, and Sarah M. Broom was awarded the John Leonard Prize for Best First Book for The Yellow House: A Memoir.
