Towergate Insurance just released the results of an exhaustive study of the role of color in 520 company logos, and the results are fascinating.
The study first compares the usage of colors between industry, including the restaurant, banking, beverage and airline industries, among 22 others. The chart of comparative color frequencies between industry is shown below:
Further, it compares color usage between competitors within the same industry. For fast food, for instance, it compares how Subway’s logo distinguishes it from McDonalds:
Or how United Airlines’ logo distinguishes it from Lufthansa:
