Aidy Bryant Will Star in Shrill, New Hulu Series from Lorne Michaels and Elizabeth Banks

Saturday Night Live’s Aidy Bryant will star in a six-part Hulu adaptation of Lindy West’s memoir Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman from producers Lorne Michaels and Elizabeth Banks.

In addition to co-writing and co-producing the series, Bryant will star as Annie, a young woman struggling to make it as a journalist while dealing with bad boyfriends, sick parents and a perfectionist boss. Annie is convinced the world doesn’t value her because of her weight, so she decides to change her life without changing her body.

Alexandra Rushfield (Parks and Recreation) will serve as showrunner, with Jesse Peretz (GLOW) set to direct the first episode and Carrie Brownstein (Portlandia) the second, as Deadline reports.

In addition, Shrill will star John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) as Annie’s boss, English comedian Lolly Adefope as her best friend and Luka Jones (People of Earth) as her boyfriend.

The series starts production in Portland, Ore., this week. For fans of Girlfriends’ Talk Show who love talking about guys and stuff, don’t fret: Bryant will continue her tenure on SNL.

Bryant stopped by Paste last year for an interview. Check it out below, and stay tuned for more news on Shrill.
