This is very much a big deal: Molly Shannon, who recently had a role in Netflix’s drama Horse Girl, will be co-starring alongside her fellow Saturday Night Live alum Vanessa Bayer in Showtime’s forthcoming comedy pilot, aptly titled Big Deal, according to Deadline.
Bayer (Wander Darkly, Trainwreck) will play Joanna, a woman who survived leukemia and has fulfilled her dream of becoming a television host on a home shopping channel. The character is reportedly based on Bayer’s own life, as she battled leukemia as a child. Shannon (Other People, Wet Hot American Summer, Will & Grace) will play Jackie, an already-established host on the channel.
The half-hour pilot is full of former SNL talent, with Jessi Klein (Big Mouth, Michael and Michael Have Issues, SNL) working as the showrunner and an executive producer. Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, Wet Hot American Summer) will also executive produce and direct.
Other Showtime pilots in the works include The Curse from Nathan Fielder and the Safdie Brothers, and How to Make Love to a Black Woman (Who May Be Working Through Some Sh*t) from Lena Waithe and Cathy Kisakye.
