Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Seems Serious About This Being President Thing

Just a little over a week after an interview with GQ Magazine where Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson suggested he’d consider running for president in 2020, it’s looking like he’s more serious than we thought.

Last night on Fallon’s Tonight Show, Johnson said he was blown away by how much support he’s received since making those recent comments. In fact, there was a national poll conducted by Public Policy Polling that determined Johnson would beat Donald Trump if an election were held today. That said, it’s hard to imagine any competition Trump could actually beat Johnson in. Speed at which one sunburns? In the face of such affirmation, Johnson has doubled down on the possibility of running, telling Jimmy Fallon, “Three-and-a-half years is a long ways away, so we’ll see.”

Whether the mountain of a man actually decides to run for president, Johnson has some choice words for the way our country has been led recently:

… You know, a lot of people want to see a different leadership today — I’m sorry, not a different, but a better leadership today … More poise, less noise … I get up early in the morning at a ridiculous hour, I go to work, and spend time with the troops, I take care of my family, I love taking care of people. I think that kind of thing really resonates with people, especially today.

Johnson’s not wrong on a lot of those accounts, but it’s hard to get too enthusiastic about the possibility of yet another former wrestler holding the nation’s highest office. Don’t get us wrong, Johnson seems like a great guy, but, at this point, don’t we deserve more? Certainly the country could benefit from an actual politician who has some semblance of an idea of what the hell they’re supposed to be doing. If Johnson runs, maybe he should hold off until 2028 or so when he doesn’t still need more than 5,000 calories a day. Wouldn’t want some foreign minister to get belly-to-belly suplexed by a hangry commander-in-chief.
