Maria Bamford is back as Maria Bamford in season two of Netflix’s Lady Dynamite. The show, from Pam Brady (South Park) and Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz, is loosely based on Bamford’s life as a comedian and actress suffering from bipolar disorder.
The trailer shows off season two’s cavalcade of guest stars, including Andy Samberg, Judy Greer, Jenny Slate, Jason Mantzoukas, Judd Apatow, David Spade, Fred Armisen and the always-welcome “Weird Al” Yankovic. Per a press release, season two “finds our precious Maria embarking on her greatest adventure ever—love. Maria will use all the wrong lessons learned in childhood as she navigates her new relationship status with family, friends and pugs. She also lands a new gig at a streaming network that may or may not be owned by Elon Musk.”
“We will focus on mental illness, and we will de-stigmatize it forever!” says Ana Gasteyer’s agent character to an excited Bamford. It’s wonderful and rare to see a comedy show such as this to be totally open about mental health issues. The full trailer (seen above) is bursting with energy and bizarre imagery.
Season two of Lady Dynamite will stream on Netflix Nov. 10. Check out some of our thoughts on the show here.
