Watch John Oliver Reluctantly Support the IRS, Followed by Michael Bolton Singing About It

John Oliver has been on a roll lately, hilariously taking on everything from the ridiculousness of Daylight Saving Time to municipal violations on Last Week Tonight. Oddly enough, Grammy-winning singer Michael Bolton has also had a hand in humor recently when he retroactively played the Michael Bolton character from Office Space in a Funny or Die video. So it’s only fitting that Oliver and Bolton would team together to reluctantly offer some support to the IRS.

To start, Oliver of course addresses the typical resentment felt towards the IRS, particularly at this time of year. He then shifts gears a little to mention that they do “a difficult, thankless, almost dangerously-boring job” and discusses the recent budget and staff cuts that have made that job even more difficult. The host eventually delivers on his promise from the beginning of the segment for “a very sexy reward” at the end as he brings out Michael Bolton to sing some support for the beleaguered IRS, which the singer dubs “the anus of our country.”
