Mike Birbiglia Announces The New One Tour, Says It’s His Best Show Yet

Fresh off filming one of the best stand-up specials of 2017 to this point, Mike Birbiglia is taking his singular show on the road. The comic, whose Netflix special Thank God for Jokes recently debuted to wide acclaim, has announced a tour slate that will take him to stages in 25 cities across North America, starting in late July and wrapping up in mid-December.

Birbiglia is the rare stand-up who elevates telling jokes into a mic to an honest-to-god art form, weaving together seemingly disparate stories into moving, unified wholes. He has a number of excellent stand-up albums under his belt, plus a feature film, Don’t Think Twice, and appearances in TV shows like Orange is the New Black and Inside Amy Schumer. (You may also remember him as Brie Larson’s adorably doofy husband in the Schumer-starring Trainwreck.)

Birbiglia estimates he’ll put on his best show yet on this new tour, explaining:

I want to thank you for sticking with me for all these years. Because of you I’ve been able to make these very specific types of shows that are somewhat hard to describe. Perhaps you’ve tried to explain them to friends, sometimes successfully and sometimes not. Sorry about that. But I’m really proud of these shows. They are a blend of storytelling and standup comedy that have an arc and a single unifying theme.

If you liked Sleepwalk With Me and My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend and Thank God For Jokes then I think you might just love The New One. It’s the best one by my estimation for reasons that I will not explain for fear of giving any of the show away. I just hope you’ll make it.
