Rick Moranis Joins Netflix’s SCTV Reunion Documentary

Netflix’s forthcoming SCTV reunion documentary, An Afternoon with SCTV, excited fans upon its announcement, though the absence of one of the classic sketch series’ most beloved alumni, Rick Moranis, left the piece feeling incomplete. Now, that void has been rectified.

Netflix announced on Thursday that Moranis will join the Martin Scorsese-helmed SCTV reunion, appearing with former castmates Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and fellow McKenzie brother Dave Thomas. The group is set for a live taping of the special on Sunday in Toronto that will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

Moranis has been on a 20-year acting hiatus, though he did recently return for a cameo nod to Spaceballs in a recent episode of The Goldbergs. He also reunited with Thomas last year for a benefit concert in Toronto.

The addition of Moranis strengthens an already highly anticipated reflection on one of comedy’s most heralded sketch programs, and allows the comedy legend the proper stage for fans and colleagues to celebrate his contributions.

An Afternoon with SCTV is set for a 2019 release.
