Ron Funches Starts 2019 with a Giggle Fit on Comedy Central

Jan. 4 might not be New Year’s Day, but in many ways it’ll be the real beginning of 2019. Wrestling fans already know to tune into New Japan’s huge Wrestle Kingdom show at the Tokyo Dome to see Hiroshi Tanahashi take on Kenny Omega for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, but now Ron Funches and Comedy Central will be bringing the perfect lead-in to the biggest day on Japanese wrestling’s calendar. Giggle Fit, Funches’s first hour-long special, will be premiering on Comedy Central that same night, at 11 p.m. ET/PT. And knowing the strong love Funches has for pro wrestling, and New Japan in particular, we’re pretty sure this scheduling isn’t a coincidence.

Don’t worry if you don’t have cable, though. Giggle Fit will also be released as an album through all major streaming services and digital storefronts on the same day. It might be a drag to miss out on Funches’s handsome visage, but you’ll still hear his jokes, and that’s what matters. And hell, you’ll be able to catch the special itself still, anyway, through Comedy Central’s website and app the next day.

Comedy Central released the first trailer from Giggle Fit today, and after the long, miserable slough of 2018 it is incredibly refreshing to see even a tiny bit of new comedy from Ron Funches. Jan. 4 can’t get here fast enough.
